Just a Pinch

We were asked to design a furniture system for hybrid workers — one that could keep up with both work and personal life inside the home. Rather than start from the object, we started from a question about behaviour:

How did the new hybrid working culture change the way people live in their homes?

The honest answer is that the two lives now overlap in the same square metres. The desk colonises the dining table; the living room becomes a background for calls. The brief, reframed, was not “design a desk” but design the boundary between working and living.

Just a Pinch is a modular, multifunctional boiserie. It acknowledges every need that surfaces while you are in working mode and answers it from the wall — storage, surface, screen, light, a place to sit and think. The furniture doesn’t sit in the room; it is the wall of the room, and it becomes the office itself.

The move that makes the system work is the one you don’t notice. When the working day ends, the office folds away: the boiserie closes flush and reads, once more, as a quiet part of the house. No packing up a laptop nook — the room simply changes state.

Just a Pinch is designed to be mounted on the wall. We drew a set of custom extruded-aluminium rods that fix to the wall; the coloured panels then hang and pivot from these rails. The result is a system, not a single product — panels can be arranged, added and reconfigured as a home’s needs shift.

Every panel is surfaced in Fenix® NTM — a super-matte, low-light-reflectance material that is soft to the touch and thermally self-healing on micro-scratches. Its physical qualities sit in easy symbiosis with the domestic setting: it reads as calm, not technical. The palette is built from three tones against a warm aluminium bar.
